How to protect your computer In a Dozen Steps
- Run a virus protection program at least twice a month, (unless you use the Internet, or E-mail a lot, then run it more.)
- Download Spybot here- http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html and run it once every two weeks, (unless you use the Internet, or E-mail a lot, then run it more.)
- Don't open up e-mail attachments from an unknown sender. (Especially if you get an e-mail that says something like "Congratulations you have won ten thousands dollars, just open up the e-mail attachment!")
- Be careful of fake error messages. An error message that is real won't scroll up and down with the page. Also, your pointer will become a hyperlink 'hand' over fake error messages.
- Password protect your computer and files, with a good password ("Password" is not a good password)
- Always log out whenever you leave your computer.
- Keep your computer in a well ventilated area.
- Use a surge protecor.
- Don't use your computer during a lighting storm.
- Don't drink or eat when using your computer.
- Don't keep it in the open, where its easy to steal.
- Always back up your files.
